Vicar (Seminary Intern)
Trinity is a teaching congregation of the ELCA. This means that we are a site for seminarians preparing for pastoral ministry to spend a year of full-time internship under the supervision of Pastor Neumark and with the support and guidance of an Internship Committee and of the entire congregation. We also welcome part-time field work students from nearby seminaries. This is a wonderful, reciprocal ministry whereby Trinity gives and receives.
We have the custom of calling our interns by the title “Vicar.”
Trinity’s 2010-2011 intern is Vicar Sarah Rohde, who writes:
I am thrilled to be serving as Trinity's vicar this year. Trinity’s commitments to hospitality, justice, and community resonate with my own passions, and make me very excited to learn and grow here.
I grew up in South Dakota and Minnesota, and completed my undergraduate degrees in music, religion, and Spanish at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Following college, I worked with women's health issues in Mexico through the ELCA's "Young Adults in Global Mission" program. My experience in Mexico expanded my understanding of church, and deepened my call to be a part of it. I am currently in seminary at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, with hopes of serving the church as an ordained pastor or chaplain.
When I’m not thinking about churchy stuff, I enjoy spending my time outdoors, in the kitchen, and in coffee shops. Running, cooking, writing letters, and playing piano are some of my favorite things to do. I also love to travel and learn about cultures and traditions that are different from my own. I’m always up for grabbing some java and talking about life, so please stop by the church and say hi whenever you’re in the neighborhood!
