Reconciling in Christ

  • We are a Reconciling In Christ congregation supporting the full participation of our LGBT members and neighbors in the life of the church, locally and world-wide.

Vicar (Seminary Intern)

Trinity is a teaching congregation of the ELCA. This means that we are a site for seminarians preparing for pastoral ministry to spend a year of full-time internship under the supervision of Pastor Neumark and with the support and guidance of an Internship Committee and of the entire congregation. We also welcome part-time field work students from nearby seminaries. This is a wonderful, reciprocal ministry whereby Trinity gives and receives.

We have the custom of calling our interns by the title “Vicar.”

Trinity’s 2009-2010 intern is Vicar Elizabeth Friedman, who writes:

I’m very excited to spend my internship year here at Trinity.  I’m a student at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.  New York has been a big change from my hometown of Dearborn, Michigan!

Before I went to seminary, I studied violin at the University of Michigan and at Rice University.  Then, feeling the tug of the call to be a pastor, I went to Costa Rica to start an after-school program in a community of Nicaraguan immigrants.

I’m very interested in urban and Latino ministry, as well as social justice issues. My husband, Matt, lives in the United Kingdom, where he teaches geology.  I’m looking forward to moving to England when I graduate from seminary in December of 2010.
