A SUNDAY OF MUSIC IN MAY!
TWO CONCERTS ON SUNDAY MAY 20
1. Florilegium Spring Concert
Sunday, May 20th at 4pm
The Florilegium Chamber Choir will be presenting four world premieres (count 'em - four!) at its concert this Sunday at 4 p.m. The premieres are by the composers Lewis Nielson, Caroline Mallonee, Erica Ball, and Florilegium's music director Nicholas DeMaison. Each piece was written for the choir at the request of Mr. DeMaison.
The program is entitled "The Telescope of History", as each of the new pieces was influenced in some manner by an earlier work, and will be presented in conjunction with those earlier works. Thus, Mr. Nielson's already too far will be paired with the Sanctus and Agnus Dei from William Byrd's Mass for Five Voices, Ms. Mallonee's Dona Pacem will be paired with two pieces from the Rachmaninoff Vespers, Ms. Ball's Adon Olam with Palestrina's motet Sicut Cervus Desiderat, and Mr. DeMaison's if i do not with the Inviolata of Josquin des Prez.
The works of Mr. Nielson and Mr. DeMaison are set for choir with the accompaniment of a single cello. We are pleased to be joined for this concert by the outstanding cellist Emily DuFour. It promises to be an exciting afternoon, with music spanning from the 15th century to the 21st in a wide variety of musical styles.
Tickets are $20 at the door ($10 for students/seniors), or $15 if purchased on-line by Friday night via Paypal on our website florilegiumchamberchoir.org.
