Vicar (Seminary Intern)
Trinity is a teaching congregation of the ELCA. This means that we are a site for seminarians preparing for pastoral ministry to spend a year of full-time internship under the supervision of Pastor Neumark and with the support and guidance of an Internship Committee and of the entire congregation. We also welcome part-time field work students from nearby seminaries. This is a wonderful, reciprocal ministry whereby Trinity gives and receives.
We have the custom of calling our interns by the title “Vicar.”
Trinity’s 2017-2018 intern is Vicar Sarah Garrett, who writes:
My name is Sarah Garrett, and I am originally from a small town called Tullahoma, Tennessee (although I don’t have much of a “Southern” accent). I went to college at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Christian Leadership, and I have spent the past two years working on my MDiv. in Philadelphia at the new United Lutheran Seminary. In my undergraduate and seminary coursework, I have been most energized by studying and practicing preaching, pastoral care, and spiritual formation.
Having lived in “Music City” for many years, I enjoy live music of all kinds. From concerts in large arenas to a lone person playing their guitar in the park, I sincerely love watching people express themselves through their unique musical gifts. Along those same lines, I enjoy musical theatre and I performed in many community theatre productions from middle school through college.I’ll never end up on Broadway, but I like to think that theatre gave me a passion for storytelling and laid the foundation for my love of preaching the gospel. If music and theatre aren’t your thing, feel free to talk to me about dogs, personality assessments (I’m a 6 on the Enneagram and an ENFJ), or the showParks and Recreation.
Better yet, feel free to talk to me about yourself and what you enjoy! I love to learn about people and I’d be thrilled to know what gets you excited, what you love most about New York and Trinity, and what your hopes and concerns are.
I have already received such a warm welcome here at TLC and I can’t wait learn, grow, and worship with you all this year.
