Trinity Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Trinity is a Reconciling in Christ congregation, meaning we welcome all people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals and couples as fully participating members of our ministry. We encourage worshippers who are uncomfortable with the nouns and pronouns in the liturgy and hymns that convey a gender for God to substitute a word or words that better express their praise of the Triune God.

If you have ideas, suggestions, concerns or questions regarding the life and ministry of the church, please speak with the pastor, interns, coordinators (listed above) or church council officers, committee chairpersons (listed below):

On February 3rd 2008, Trinity Congregation experienced the joy and celebration of receiving nineteen individuals into ELCA Church Membership.

Gehard Weber, Pastor Neumark & Irma Weber

On Sunday June 12th 2005, we were delighted and surprised to receive a visit from Gerhard Weber and his wife, Irma, from Hamburg, Germany. Gerhard's mother was the cousin of Anna Rohr, who is honored on a plaque found on the side of our pulpit. Anna died in 1947 after over 40 years of dedicated service at Trinity. Her husband died early in their marriage, and like the Biblical Anna, she then spent all her time "in the temple" working for the Lord.

In many ways, we carry on today, thanks to the dedication of Anna Rohr. It was an amazing gift to reconnect with her family and we plan to continue the conversation with them and learn more about our history.

Stay tuned...

Trinity Place: A Shelter for Homeless LGBT Youth

Currently, it is estimated that there are 7,000 homeless LGBTQ homeless youth (ages 15-21) in NYC. Many of the youth have been rejected by their families elsewhere and find their way to NYC. The youth are at high risk of suicide and abuse. At this time there are only 75 beds in the entire city that welcome them.

Churches have played a large part in the rejection experienced by many of these young people and Trinity believes that churches need to play a central role in providing a welcoming and safe place for the youth to move forward with their goals.

Last winter, during some of the coldest nights, Trinity began to take some of the overflow group from another shelter. Subsequently, friends, congregants, and the Interfaith Task Force for Homeless LGBTQ Youth, opened Trinity Place this past June, every night from 9pm-9am. Thanks to the partnership with the Interfaith Task Force and many other friends and donors, Trinity Place provides meals, supervision, guidance, and a safe place for 10 youth to sleep.

For the New Year, as a response to a request from the youth, weekly art classes will be held. Although the shelter is staffed 6 nights a week, Saturday is the night off for the staff monitor. Volunteers, willing to stay over Saturday nights, are needed. On Wednesday evenings, Trinity members host a dinner for the youth. Volunteers, willing to prepare such a meal (for 12), are needed. For the on-going running of the shelter, donations of food, games, toiletries, and funding are always needed.

Please keep this exciting, important new ministry in your prayers. Thank you!
